Every month, hundreds of millions people visit websites that stealing the processing power of their computers, which is used for mining cryptocurrency.
These websites are running cryptocurrency mining scripts, and this includes over 200 of the world’s most popular websites, according to the AdGuard experts.
A lot of these websites are trying to engage their visitors for as long as possible, by offering torrents, videos or adult content. During the browsing time, scripts such as JSEcoin and CoinHive do the calculations through the browser on the user’s computer in order to verify blockchain transactions. These calculations required an enormous processing power.
If your “machine” takes a significantly longer processing time for regular tasks, this could be the mining malware or script running in the background. Regular cleanups should help, but internet users should be more careful what they visit.
